Saving energy and improving everyday comfort are the main advantages of smart living, according to the results of a study titled “The Evaluation of the Digital Consumer”. Roughly every second respondent interested in smart home applications also stated that home security is of importance. A break-in is to some extent the biggest concern of the smart home skeptics. 35 percent of those surveyed who were not interested in smart home applications specified “concern about privacy” as their most important argument against smart home.
For almost the same amount of respondents the devices are simply too expensive. Another aspect is also the fact that quite a few are scared of the increasing degree of automation. 5,046 people were surveyed during March/ April 2015.
